For new customer accounts and bonds over $350,000 the following forms are required:

In addition to the forms listed above, we also need Business Financial Statements, Affiliate Financial Statements, and a CPA-reviewed Financial Statement (see example below):

Business Financial Statements: furnish a copy of the last three Fiscal or Calendar Year-End Financial Statements on the company, if available. In addition a current Interim Financial Statement if the Year-End is older than 90 days. All Financial Statements are to be prepared by a CPA or Public Accountant in accordance with AICPA Guidelines established for construction accounting. They must include, as a minimum, the Accountant’s Opinion Letter, Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Report, and Statement of Changes in Retained Earnings/Owner’s Equity and Footnotes.

Affiliate Financial Statements or tax returns are needed on firms related by common ownership or control.

Recommended Financial Statement Presentation for the company requiring bonds:

  • Contract size =/< $350,000 — In-house balance sheet and P&L on an Accrual basis
  • Contract size =/< $1,000,000 — CPA prepared Compilation including footnotes and schedules prepared on a percentage of Completion basis, for SBA. For non-SBA applications, a Review is suggested (see below).
  • Contracts > $1,000,000 — CPA prepared Review including footnotes and schedules prepared on a percentage of completion basis

These recommendations may vary due to your particular circumstances and total revenue volume of business.

Finally, this Sample CPA-Reviewed Financial Statement should offer some assistance to your tax professional in preparing the required form. Remember that this is the most important information on your company that you provide so it’s presentation and transparency is very important!

Upon approval, we’ll prepare a General Indemnity Agreement for execution by the principals, and their spouses.

If credit and project references return satisfactory, you can demonstrate experience in the type of work to be performed, and your financials reflect adequate capital to finance the work, a bond will be provided.
