Contractor License Bond

Contractor license bonds guarantee that the contractor will operate their business in accordance with local or state government requirements.   Some license bonds are simply compliance bonds guaranteeing that the contractor will perform in accordance with local codes,  while a few states, include  performance guarantees on the individual contracts that the contractor undertakes. Compliance bonds are not difficult to obtain while the performance versions require additional due diligence and usually have higher rates.

Another bond that is sometimes referred to as a Contractor License Bond is a Non-Resident Contractor License Bond. These bonds guarantee that the non-resident contractor will comply with local codes, etc. but also, include assurances to the state that the contractor will not only file required tax forms but also  pay tax associated with the contract(s) performed. Again, a little more hazardous.
